What to Expect with Breast Lift Surgery

The surgical procedure of lifting sagging or droopy breasts is called a breast lift or mastopexy.  Over time a women’s breast may begin to lose shape, volume and its youthful appearance.  This may be due to child bearing, breast feeding, loss of weight, simply aging or heredity.

A breast lift raises the projection of the breast by removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissues.  When there is not enough breast tissue to achieve the desire look an implant is sometime incorporated; see breast augmentation to learn more.  Likewise, if there is too much breast tissue to achieve a desired look a breast reduction may be done in combination with the lift; see breast reduction to learn more. Smaller areolas are also a sign of youthfulness.  Dr. Newall will often reduce the size of the areola to complete the desired look.  The right combination of lifting, volume change and areola size manipulation will provide the best results and achieve more youthful looking breasts.

Breast Surgery Explained

A breast lift is performed under general anesthesia.
There are three incision techniques:

  1. The Areolar:

  2. The “:ollypop”:

  3. The “Inverted T”:

The resulting scar will be different for each technique.  Dr. Newall uses all three depending on your particular situation and desires.  Dr. Newall does not charge for consultations and invites you to visit his office to discuss all your options.  Call 713-799-9999 to speak to Dianne, our patient educator and scheduler.
