What to Expect with Cosmetic Fillers

The newest and one of the most exciting trends in non-surgical aesthetic treatments are the use of what are known as cosmetic fillers (also known as dermal fillers).  While a filler is effective at rejuvenating the appearance of your face they are not a substitute for a facelift.

There are many different applications for cosmetic fillers including smoothing out shallow wrinkles, replacing volume in deep wrinkles, reducing hollowness around the eyes, adding fullness to lips, and even correction of some deformities and asymmetries.

Restylane®/Perlane®:

Dermal fillers Restylane® & Perlane® are in the category known as hyluronic acid.  Hylaronic acid is a naturally occurring component of the skin.  It is one of the major substances of the “extracellular matrix” and thus essential in providing fullness or thickness to the skin.  It is vital in tissue repair and hydration of the skin.  Age and exposure to the everyday elements cause degradation of this natural substance.  Hyluronic acid fillers return a synthetic form of what your skin has lost over the years.

Dr. Newall injects Restylane® & Perlane® in the skin directly below the wrinkle or other depression in an effort to provide volume, decrease the visibility of the lines, and thus providing a more youthful appearance.  Restylane® is used to fill finer lines while Perlane® is used for those deep depressions that need lots of volume.

Neither Restylane® nor Perlane® is permanent.  They generally last 6-8 months but results differ from person to person.

Juvéderm™ Ultra r/ Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus
