What to Expect with Facelift Surgery

A rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the forehead, eyes and cheeks, as well as improve sagging around the neck and chin. As with all surgical procedures, certain associated risks apply, and Dr. Newall will discuss each of these with you.

During the procedure, Dr. Newall will use a series of incisions to separate the skin from the fat and muscle that are contained beneath it. He will tighten the underlying muscle and membrane and remove any excess skin. Sutures are used to close the incisions. Your sutures should be ready for removal after approximately five days, but each case is different. The scalp may take additional time to heal.

How long does it take to recover from the surgery?

Dr. Newall will discuss with you a time line for returning to normal activities, but plan to take it easy for at least the first full week following surgery.
